MPs Slam the Use of South Sudan's Wrong Flag and Map.

The Transitional Legislative Assembly members have raised concerns about the incorrect circulation of South Sudan’s flag and map. These symbols hold immense significance for our nation’s identity and unity. They have urged the National Government, specifically the Cabinet Affairs Ministry, to address this issue urgently.

Tut Jok, a member of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) representing Akobo County of Jonglei State, expressed disappointment upon noticing basketball fans waving two different South Sudan flags: the correct version with a sky-blue triangle and the wrong one with dark blue. The correct map should include all parts of South Sudan. This occurred last month.

In 2023, the Media Authority warned advertisement and printing companies against printing the wrong version of the national flag. The media regulator pointed out the printing and circulation of different versions within the country and at some diplomatic missions abroad.

Jok emphasized the pressing need for immediate action, noting that he had observed the same mistake being repeated in most government offices. He highlighted that police stations and organized forces also used the wrong flag. Jok called on the Ministry of Information to take immediate action to ensure the correct version of the flag was displayed on the national broadcaster, underlining the Ministry’s crucial role in this matter.

Another MP, who identified himself as Malual, urged the government to undertake the distribution of the correct version of the flag. Malual also pointed out that the wrong map excluded parts of South Sudan.
