Gift Of The Holy Spirit Day 4

We are still studying a series of messages titled Gift of the Holy Spirit; yesterday we said,
Before Jesus died for the world’s sins, He told the disciples that the Holy Spirit was with them.
Secondly, after dying for the world’s sins, He breathed on the disciples and told them to receive the Holy Spirit, which, before He died, He said was with them but now inside them, and they were born again.

Thirdly, Jesus told them to wait for the Holy Spirit. Let’s continue today. Now, the question is, does the Holy Spirit have you?

This brings us to the third relationship of the believer with the Holy Spirit. By the way, why did Jesus breathe on them? In Greek, pneuma is the word that also means wind, breath, or spirit. In Hebrew, the same word is defined as ruach; in Arabic, roho is spirit. Now, after being WITH, indwelled by the spirit, in Luke 24, Jesus told them to wait for the spirit, which He reminded them in verse 8 of Acts. Let me read, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost comes upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Acts 1:8.
This is the third relationship where the Holy Spirit comes upon you. First, during CONVICTION, then after accepting Jesus, the Holy Spirit will be IN YOU. Third, after it’s in you, we just read in Acts that He the Holy Spirit will be UPON YOU. So we have, WITH YOU, IN YOU, and UPON YOU.

Why upon you? The Greek word for upon is EPI, just like in the Old Testament; the spirit came upon Moses, David, Gideon, and Ezekiel, empowering them for service. When the Holy Spirit came upon Samson, the Philistines were in trouble, but his own strange failed before it came upon Samson.
Jesus said to wait for the dynamic power of the Holy Spirit, though you have it inside, and then be witnesses. 120 of these believers were together in the same room when Jesus breathed on them. For ten days, they were quarantined, praying.

Let’s read more, “And suddenly, there came a sound from heaven like a rushing mighty wind, filling the house where they were sitting.
Acts 2:2
There was blowing and moving of the wind, breath.
Next verse, “And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 2:3‭-‬4

After this, the world was never the same. They did what humans can’t do, but they did it with the Holy Spirit in and upon them.

After the spirit is with you and opens your life to receive Christ, it empowers you for service.
Now, they waited for the spirit; another question remains: should we wait for the spirit nowadays as they did? No! Ok, if not, why? Because it’s a gift, it’s available. Listen carefully; all believers in Christ have the Holy Spirit in them, but again, how can He, the Holy Spirit, come upon you even if it’s in you? What is the character of a believer with the spirit inside but not upon him? And what is the character of a believer who has the spirit both in and upon? That’s what we shall see next time.

Thank you.
