The United States is providing South Sudan with a $95 million boost in humanitarian aid.
The United States will provide an extra $95 million in aid to South Sudan. This money comes from the American people through USAID. On Monday, the US Ambassador to South Sudan, Michael J. Adler, and USAID Mission Director Kate Crawford announced this in a joint statement.
The funding will help groups like WFP continue to provide necessary food and nutrition aid to over 700,000 people in the regions of South Sudan where food is scarce. This is important because more than seven million people in South Sudan don’t have enough food. Also, almost 780,000 people have come to South Sudan from Sudan since the fighting got worse last April. These people often don’t have enough food, are malnourished, and have very few things.
There is also the risk of flooding, which could affect as many as 3.3 million people in South Sudan in the next few months.
